West Seneca Central School District

The NYSPHSAA, Inc. believes that the athletic participation of students enhances their academic performance. To support this belief, the Scholar/Athlete Team Award Program was begun in 1991. Varsity teams who earn a 90.0% or higher average during their sport season qualify for the NYSPHSAA award.

COMPUTING THE SCHOLAR/ATHLETE TEAM AWARD  (effective Fall 2016 season):

TEAM SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD:
In order for a team to be considered a Scholar Athlete Team, they must encompass the following criteria:
1. The team’s TOTAL Grade Point Average for 75% of the roster must be 90.00 or above.
a. If this GPA is equal to or greater than 90.00, then the team will receive a Scholar-Athlete Team Certificate.
b. In addition, ONLY individuals with a 90.00 GPA or above will receive a Scholar-Athlete pin.

INDIVIDUAL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE:
If a team DOES NOT meet the Scholar-Athlete Team Criteria, the individuals with a 90.00 or above GPA are still eligible to receive a pin and will be considered an Individual Scholar-Athlete.
