The Social Studies program is designed to prepare students to become caring, compassionate, and informed people who are capable of adapting to change. In West Seneca, the program is guided by the New York State Social Studies Framework. Here are several selected highlights of our program:
- Engagement with Social Studies Practices is embedded throughout the elementary program.
- Two nationally accredited social studies honor society chapters at both of our high schools (Rho Kappa)
- 8th Grade Honors courses in both of our middle schools.
- Honors and AP courses in both of our high schools.
- College partnerships with Syracuse University and Hilbert College.
- Seal of Civic Readiness approved programs at both of our high schools.
Additionally, our department is actively engaged in regional and statewide professional organizations (E.g. Niagara Council for the Social Studies and the New York State Council for the Social Studies).
