Overview of World Languages
The West Seneca Central School District is proud to offer a first-class World Language program for students. They have the option to choose Spanish or French beginning in grade 7 and may continue with their language study throughout their senior year. If students are interested, they may take another language once in high school.
For the first time in a long time, the NYS Education Department adopted new standards for World Languages. To support our work in this area, we have partnered with Dr. Erin Kearney from the University at Buffalo. She has supported our teachers in conducting crosswalks between the two sets of standards, identifying the major shifts in instruction, and sharing new learning opportunities to help build capacity in these new expectations. As our teachers continue to develop their new curriculum documents and implement the new standards, we will post resources here.
