Academic Challenge Trivia Club
Club Advisor- Mr. Frank, Room 216
Students compete against other schools in the area in several meets throughout the winter and spring. The questions cover a wide variety of topics in academic fields and general knowledge. Practices will be held once a week in Mr. Frank's room. All students in East Middle (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) are welcome. If you like playing along with "Jeopardy" and similar programs on TV, this is the club for you.

Destination Imagination (DI) Club
Club Advisor- Mrs. Zimmerman, Room 23
Do you like to use your imagination, solve challenges and work as a team? If so, you might want to try out the DI Club. In this club, students work together to find solutions to problems. Only 7 students (Grades 6 to 8) are able to compete on the 2023-24 competitive team. However, any student is invited to participate in experiencing the club challenges in October & November. In December, just the 7 competitive team members will continue to attend the club meetings in order to prepare for their "long term" challenge. Meetings will be held on most Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 18th. All meetings are directed by Mrs. Zimmerman and will be held in Room #23.

Drama Club

Students are provided a workshop based setting for students to become acclimated and comfortable with all aspects of theater. Field trip to Shea’s or other show locations yearly.

They will be celebrating lots of French holidays and cultures throughout the year such as Mardi Gras and St. Nicolas.

Intramural Sports
6th graders have the opportunity to participate in before-school and after school sports.
The following activities were offered last year: Runners’ Club, Floor Hockey, 3-on-3 Basketball, and Bowling.

Jazz Band
Advisor - Mrs. Pomietlarz - Room 119
Jazz Band is a group that meets before school on Thursday mornings. We play music in a rock or jazz style. The typical instruments in a jazz band are saxes, trumpets, trombones, drum set, guitar, and bass. Please see Mrs. Pomietlarz is you are interested.

Math COUNTS!

Newspaper Club
Club Advisor- Ms. Unger, Room 207
Help keep students, parents, and staff informed about all of the amazing sports, clubs, events, and people we have here at East Middle School! Newspaper club meets twice monthly, primarily on Wednesdays. During meetings, students will brainstorm story ideas, draft questions & articles, and work together to create a quarterly digital newspaper. With so many interesting things happening at EMS, members will have the option of different articles and interviews that relate to their other interests.

Origami Club

Students in Grade 6 will learn how to create a variety of origami art pieces. Origamists will learn folding techniques, use teamwork, gain fine-motor skills and create beautiful art pieces to take home or show-off in our school throughout the year.

Do you like Science, Engineering, Technology and Math? If so, try out East Middle's STEM Club. The club is directed by Mrs. Zimmerman, Mrs. Coleman and co-facilitated by East Middle's science teachers throughout the year! The club will meet on most Tuesdays from 2:30 - 3:30 pm., with the first meeting being held on Tuesday, October 17th. all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are welcome to attend. Most meetings will be held in Room 23, but listen to announcements for a potential room change throughout the year. -
Student Council

A group of 8th grade students chosen by their classmates to organize extracurricular and service activities to improve the school and community.

Tech Club

Students will work with machines such as the CNC and laser engraver in the wood shop to create various projects. Projects could include but aren't limited to coasters, signs, engraved team logos. Students will also have the ability to work with mini lathes to create their own wood pen.

Vocal Jazz explores genre and performance-including improvisation! Vocal Jazz also goes to venues outside of school for performances!!
