The purpose of the library media center program and its staff is to promote a love of reading, research and lifelong learning.
Hours of Operation:
The library media center is open every school day from 8:30am until 3:00pm. Students are allowed to visit the library throughout the day with a signed pass, for computer and printing use and book return/checkout.
The library media center operates on a partially fixed and partially flexible schedule. All classes in grades Kindergarten through 6th are scheduled to come to the library for a 40 minute class every other week. In addition to their regularly scheduled class, teacher are encouraged to bring their classes to the media center as often as possible. Teachers may reserve the media center by using the schedule that is kept in the library.
Students are given the opportunity to become a library helper at the beginning of each school year. Applications are distributed to homerooms and need to be signed by a parent, as well as their homeroom teacher. Library helper duties usually include dusting, watering plants and straightening computer stations and bookshelves.
Student orientation will take place during the first few weeks of school and will include the following topics:
- Circulation procedures
- Appropriate conduct in the library media center
- An overview on the use and care of books
- Internet access and the acceptable use policy
Students are allowed to keep books and magazines checked out for 2 weeks at a time. All materials may be renewed for an additional 2 weeks if needed. Reference materials may be used in the library only. Overdue notices will be sent out quarterly. We do not charge overdue fines, but if a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, the book must either be paid for or replaced.
