Library Information
-
The purpose of the library media center program and its staff is to promote a love of reading, research and lifelong learning.
Hours of Operation & Scheduling.
The library operates on a fixed schedule which allows every class to participate in a 40-minute class and book exchange weekly. Students must be present in their weekly library class to participate in book exchange.
Library Helpers
5th Grade students in Mr. Riter's room have the opportunity to apply to be a library helper at the beginning of each school year. Applications are distributed to homerooms and need to be signed by a parent, as well as their homeroom teacher. Library helper duties usually include collecting books and distributing book bins, collecting mail and/or copies, restocking the book vending machine and other tasks as needed.
Orientation
Student orientation will take place during the first few weeks of school and will include the following topics:
- Circulation procedures
- Appropriate conduct in the library media center
- An overview on the use and care of books
- Internet access and the acceptable use policy
Checkout Policy
Students are allowed to keep books for one week at a time. All materials may be renewed for an additional week if needed. We do ask that popular titles and graphic novels are returned after one week, which allows other students to borrow them. Overdue notices will be sent home when a book or books become overdue. We do not charge overdue fines, but if a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, the book must either be paid for or replaced.
