Out of the Dust

Out of the Dust

by Karen Hesse Year Published: Easy Reading
Billie Jo and her family struggle through the Dust Bowl, living in Oklahoma during the 1930's. A terrible accident disrupts her life and she has to come to grips with herself and those around her. I really enjoyed this novel because, while written entirely in free verse, it tells a meaningful story about self-realization and acceptance.
