West Senior's National Honor Society students recently took to the streets to raise money for scholarships through a bottle and can drive. Members distributed fliers to households in their neighborhoods requesting that residents leave any returnable bottles and cans at the curb on a designated day and NHS members would return to collect the donations.
On March 27, advisors Patti Carlone and Jennifer Schubring were at the school with a box truck from the Seneca Street Can and Bottle Retrieval Center to accept what members collected. They said the response from the community was overwhelmingly positive.
“Within an hour the truck was filled from floor to ceiling, and the overflow of donations were brought directly to the redemption center,” Carlone said.
In addition, teachers at West Senior contributed throughout the month of March.
“Thank you to all of the residents and families that made this a success,” Carlone said.
