West Bel Canto, Vocal Jazz to sing with Tony Award winner Lena Hall
West Seneca West Senior High School’s Vocal Jazz group and Bel Canto Signers will perform in “Evita,” Starring Buffalo’s show Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4 at Shea’s 710 Theater. Students will also be visited by one of the show’s Broadway actors for a workshop prior to the performance.
West’s Vocal Jazz group will join Gowanda High School’s chorus for the 2:30 p.m. performance, and West’s Bel Canto Singers will be the sole chorus for the 7:30 p.m. performance.
Starring Buffalo shows offer audiences access to Broadway’s theater artists and provides Western New York students the chance to learn from, work alongside, and be inspired by the stars in both master classes and performances.
The musical by seven-time Tony Award winner Andrew Lloyd Weber and three-time Academy Award winner Tim Rice charts Eva Peron's rise to become the most powerful woman in Latin America, and features songs like "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina."
Tony Award winner Lena Hall, known for her performance in Kinky Boots, will play Eva.
The ensemble features Buffalo performers Karen Grace Harty, Matthew Iwanski – Jackson, Katy Miner, Ben Michael Moran, Matthew Rivera, Raphael Santos and Alexandria Watts, as well as nearly 100 other Western New York singers, dancers and musicians.
As part of Starring Buffalo's educational mission, students from Gowanda, West Seneca West and Burgard Vocational high schools, the Academy of Theater Arts, and the University at Buffalo's Zodiaque Dance Company have been chosen to participate in “Evita.”
