East Senior celebrates Black History Month

In February, East Senior High School celebrated Black History Month.

Led by senior Abigail Jackson and the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, and supported by Student Council and administration, students had the opportunity to take a slam poetry workshop with Brandon Williamson, see live artist Edreys Wajed during lunches, and take a hip hop dance workshop.

Student and teacher teams decorated classroom doors for a door decorating contest, and students viewed movies highlighting important issues and accomplishments. The hallways of East Senior were also decorated with original artwork and displays created by East Senior students to celebrate African American culture.

Announcements showcasing historical and contemporary African American men and women were read each morning by students.

Students, teachers, support staff and administration all joined together to make this a very special month for all.
