Help needy families this holiday season

The holiday season is upon us. If you’re looking to give back and make a donation to an organization this year, consider making a monetary donation to West Seneca Cares for Kids, a program supporting less-fortunate families in the West Seneca Central School District.

Families are identified by school social workers from West Seneca’s five elementary, two middle and two high schools. The money received will be spent at a local store to provide families with items including winter clothing, boots and coats.

Parents work with district social workers to identify student needs. The amount of money each family receives depends on the number of children in the family, though they are required to pay taxes on their purchase.

“[West Seneca Cares for Kids] helps put clothes on the backs of our families in our town at a tough time of the year where they’re saving to make ends meet,” Superintendent Matthew Bystrak said. “It’s local, it’s direct and we have a good read on the people. This program doesn’t get abused. There is no down side to it.”

To make a donation and help a family this holiday season, send a check payable and addressed to West Seneca Cares to Kids to P.O. Box 451, West Seneca, NY 14224.

For questions regarding the West Seneca Cares for Kids Program, contact the social worker assigned to your child’s home school.
