Reading Rover offers free reading materials across town

Keep your reading skills sharp this summer with a visit to the Summer Reading Rover, a school bus filled with free books, activities and resources for children and families.

The Rover made its first stop this summer at Fireman’s Park July 10 where more than 650 free books were handed out by West Seneca Central School District librarians.

Together with the West Seneca Rotary and West Seneca Public Library the Rover will make four stops, the next being Garden Village Apartments July 24, near French Road and Union Road. The third stop will be Burmon Recreation Area Aug. 7, and the final stop of the inaugural Reading Rover tour will be Tim Russert Park Aug. 14. The Rover is out and about from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays.

In addition to the free reading materials and activities, representatives from the West Seneca Public Library will be on site for library card signups and to hand out information on summer reading programs offered to the community.

For the tech-minded readers, members of the West Seneca Central School District Technology Department will bring iPads to show students how to access free digital reading materials through the district’s Sora app. With Sora and a student login, children can access local public library catalogs and borrow and open books with one tap.

The Reading Rover is provided by the West Seneca Central School District and librarians, and the West Seneca Rotary.
