Summer reading kick-off shows students ‘Reading is Out of This World’

West Seneca school librarians will present “Reading is Out of This World,” the fourth annual summer reading kick-off, from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31. The event is open to students of all ages.

This will be the first year the event is being held in the new West Seneca Public Library, located at 1300 Union Road.

The event aims to connect all children in the West Seneca community with their local library facility so they may have free access to reading materials during the summer break.

Children will visit with guest readers, participate in activities, and have the opportunity to sign up for a library card and tour the library.

The outer space theme of the event will include an interactive photo booth, and characters and super heroes will be available for photos as well.

STEM and Makerspace activities include an Osmos station, green screen photos, a Spheros station and a space sensory station.

Crafts, coloring and Lego fun will offer activities like button making, a Keva challenge and Circuit Bugs.

See a fire truck, take photos with the vehicle and thank your local first responders for their hard work.

Live group and individual music performances will take place throughout the event.

Spot Coffee will be open to provide refreshments that tie into the theme of the event.
