Runners set records at track and field state championships

Juniors Alivia Murray and Danielle Lambert, and senior Anna Rybczynski, finished an outstanding winter season which culminated in competing at the 2019 NYSPHSAA/Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, New York.

Murray crossed the finish line in her second fastest effort of this season in the girls 1,500 meter race walk in her first-ever state championship. She completes her best season on the track to date as the top ranked student athlete in this event in Section VI.

Rybczynski also crossed the finish line in her second fastest effort of this season in the girls 1,000 meter run in her record fifth indoor state championship in addition to her record twelfth overall state championship. She was selected as the Section VI female recipient of the NYSPHSAA/Federation Indoor Track and Field State Championships Sportsmanship Award. She becomes the second such student athlete in West Seneca’s track and field program to ever earn this award, now sharing this distinction with 2013 alumna Brianna Colello.

Lambert highlighted performances at state championships, her first ever as well, tossing her lifetime best and school record breaking distance of 41’ 10-3/4” in the girls weight throw. This 1’ ¾” improvement marked the third instance this season that she bettered the previous school record distance under the tutelage of Coach Kader.
