Speech and Language

Speech and Language Therapy is offered through the school district to students whose academic performance is adversely affected by speech-language development, such as one or more of the following:

• Impaired articulation
• A language impairment-receptive and/or expressive
• Hearing impairment
• Organic problems - such as cleft palate, head injury

These disorders must be moderate to severe in nature. Students tested by the speech therapist are referred to the Committee on Special Education.  A psychological evaluation is performed by the school psychologist to determine the student’s overall learning profile.

Children with developmental speech delays (those delays that will develop naturally as the child matures) may not qualify for speech services in the schools.

Delivery of school-based services will be determined by the Committee on Special Education on an individual basis related to each child’s individual needs.
