Grading Scale for Mr. Ball's Classes
Grading Scale for Grade 5
Room 3 Grading Scale
Please note that we use a traditional grading scale in the middle school. We do not use the three letter "B", "D" and "S" type of grades at this point. All report card grades are numeric and are averaged. Your child's grades are available at all times through the use of the Parent Portal. You do not need to wait for report cards to be published to see how your child is doing.
It is my opinion that many student assignments do not fit smoothly into a numeric grading scale. This is particularly true of written compositions and Social Studies projects.
Since I must convert all grades to numbers for the report cards, I thought it would be helpful to provide you with the scale I will be using.
I will use the scale below to assign point values to the student letter grades. In most cases I will use the mid point of each value range. For example a 'B' grade is worth between 87 and 89 points. I will typically award 88 points, the mid way between 87 and 89.
I may award the 89 if there is cause to raise the grade or 87 if there is some reason to do that.
