An Interview with Mrs. O'Dell

  • How long have you been teaching?

This is my 21st year of teaching! Over the years, I have worked with students in Pre-K through Grade 6. Way back, I was a speech therapist before I became a reading teacher. I have even taught kindergarten! I am thrilled to be back at West Elementary, where I started my career in West Seneca. I've spent the last 7 years at Winchester Elementary and I taught at East Elementary before that.

Where did you go to school?

I went to college in Albany, NY. I graduated from The College of Saint Rose with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders. For graduate school, I went to Canisius College and received my Master of Science degrees in Reading and Educational Administration.

    Tell me about your family:

Mr. O’Dell and I have been very happy to make our home in West Seneca. We are the proud parents to 3 amazing boys and an 11 year old Yorkie, named Chloe. You will hear many stories about my family! Our boys are in 4th grade, 3rd grade and kindergarten. You may even see us out and about at many school and community activities.

    Do you have any hobbies?

I love bird watching! The boys and I enjoy learning about the song birds and occasional hawks that come to our yard. I also enjoy gardening and reading. I love mysteries and the author Agatha Christie always provides a welcomed diversion. We enjoy going for walks in our neighborhood or visiting local playgrounds... we may see you there! Please stop and say "hi!" if you do!
