    January Newsletter

    Dear Families,

Happy New Year!  2018 is upon us.....I hope you all had a wonderful Winter Break and enjoyed the time with family and friends.  We took the reading log calendars and totaled the minutes up.  Although we didn’t meet our classroom goal of 2.310 minutes (that’s 10 minutes each day for each student) we read for a total of 1,543 minutes.  What an amazing job some of your children have done.  Our top two readers were Devon with 240 minutes and Owen with 229 minutes.  That’s pretty amazing.

As we prepare for the rest of the 2017-18 school year, we are “bumping things up a bit”.  It is expected that your children have their addition and subtraction facts mastered, are writing in complete sentences, writing as many sentences as how old they are, and many, many more things.  The NYS Common Core has us working hard to prepare your child for bigger and better things.  I ask that you work with your child at home to encourage neater writing, good quality work and working to the best of their ability.  We have also started cursive so your child may be bringing home cursive to practice as well.

Thank you to all the families who helped with the party or sent in goodies for our party.  Your help was much appreciated!

Book orders are being sent home and will be due by Tuesday, January 9.  Orders can be done online at Scholastic.com.

There will be no school on Monday, January 15 (Martin Luther King Day).

Many thanks for all you do to support your child and their learning!
