A Message from Superintendent Bystrak
April 1, 2022
Greetings West Seneca Families:
As we gear up to finish the year 2021-2022 school year strong, I want to thank every student, parent, and staff member in the District for your part in helping to get us through the challenges we have faced for the past few years. Your resilience and community spirit have helped to ease the burden on our children in difficult times. We are now enjoying a return to some form of normalcy – musicals without masks, classes without masks, and a full array of sports and activities.
Before the school year is over, we will have several music performances and festivals, celebratory dinners and awards ceremonies, and graduation and moving up days on our newly reconstructed and resurfaced senior high fields. I encourage everyone to see our online calendar and take advantage of our revived togetherness at any or all of our student-centered events.
Please be aware that budget and Board of Education Member voting season is upon us, and your input is both necessary and welcome. Voting will take place on Tuesday, May 17, at East Senior High School, 4760 Seneca Street, from 7:00AM to 9:00PM. As always, much thoughtful work has gone into the formation of our 2022-2023 proposed budget. While we are still utilizing American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds for essentials to enhance student support and acceleration, both academically and emotionally, these funds are temporary and we will need to continue to maintain our programming and facilities through our regular revenu stream. We are crafting a budget that will support our student’ needs as we progress beyond the academic and social/emotional challenges we have faced.
With our ARP funding, we have added a District level Behavior Support Team consisting of a social worker and psychologist. Additionally, we have added another District level social worker whose primary focus is engaging students and families with needs, both in and outside of school. Finally, we have added an additional psychologist so that each of our buildings now has an essential dedicated psychologist.
We are excited about the coming summer for a variety of reasons. Our Capital Project will continue with some of the most notable work taking place at West Middle School this summer. We will double the number of students in our elementary summer program offerings, and will continue to offer essential summer programming to our middle and high school students.
If you haven’t joined us on Facebook (West Seneca Central Schools) and Twitter (@WestSenecaCSD), please do so. You will find a wealth of information there, along with a lively community of fellow parents and alumni. Here’s to a successful spring semester! Thank you for your continued support of the West Seneca Central Schools.
