Holiday Valley should be opening soon. Ski club starting date is scheduled for Tuesday December 18th. I will make an announcement at school and send a “remind” text confirming the start date. Please be prepared to ski on this date.
In the event of a Tuesday snow day when school is closed, ski club will also be cancelled. Cancellations will be made up at the end of the season. Currently, our 7 scheduled dates are 12/18, 1/8, 1/15, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5 and 2/12. We will not ski as a group, over the winter recess. However, your child holds a valid ski pass for every Tuesday night throughout the entire ski season. You may choose to ski during the December and/or February break. You will need to provide your own transportation. If you are planning to ski on Tuesday 12/25 or 1/1, please make sure you have your ski card. Once you obtain possession of the card it is your responsibility to take care of it. (I will distribute your card on our first trip). Your ski card is needed weekly to ski. It is your responsibility to have the pass each week for club. If lost, there is a $20.00 replacement fee.
If you are unable to go skiing with ski club, please call Mrs. Schunk at 677-3500 ext. 4426 preferably by Monday evening (or early Tuesday). If it is more convenient you may text me through the remind app. This will ensure that we do not wait unnecessarily for you to board the bus before leaving school. In addition, if you are not legally in school for at least part of the day on Tuesday, you are not allowed to go skiing.
If a situation arises where we need to contact all parents, we will contact your house phone then your cell phone, if a number was provided. For example, if there is a delay and we will be arriving later than expected, we will do our best to notify you. There will be an announcement on Monday regarding ski club activity each week, but over night plans could change so be aware of short notice changes in the schedule. You may call the Holiday Valley tape for snow conditions at 699-2344 or use their web site www.holidayvalley.com.
Remember you must ride there and back on the ski bus. You are not allowed to accept a ride home with anyone else, even a parent. Penalty is removal from club. No exceptions. If you are late boarding the bus (more than 10 minutes barring any injury with delay in the patrol room) you will be docked one week of ski club. We expect you on the bus by 8:40 p.m. There will be several busses parked in the bus area each week. Always memorize your bus number so that you are sure to board the correct bus. You will not be allowed to board the bus before 8:35 p.m. You may leave items (nothing of great value) on the bus, but you will not be able to get anything off the bus during the evening. Often the bus driver pulls out to eat while we ski.
You must always ski with a buddy. If you are injured on the hill, have your buddy notify a ski patroller (blue and maroon parka with a big cross on the back) or a hospitality person (bright yellow parka) or a lift attendant and they will page your advisor who will meet you in the patrol room. Dress properly for weather; rain gear, extremely cold conditions, etc. Always wear a hat, gloves, (not knit gloves) and ski goggles. Do not wear long scarves, they can get caught on the lifts and are a safety hazard. Ski neckers are recommended. Before ski club begins, you should make sure your ski equipment fits and is in good working order.
Pick up will be at WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL, 395 Center Road at 9:45 p.m. Your parents must be there on time or you will have to wait in the cold. The building will not be open at that time. If parents do not arrive within a reasonable amount of time, you will not be allowed to ski the following week. We are not allowed to drive you home.
If you are using your own equipment (skis/snowboard), you must get a ride to school (from a parent) with your equipment. You are not allowed to transport it on the regular bus to school in the morning. Please drop off your equipment at the book room (600 wing, next to girls gym door) where it will be locked up for the day. Plan on arriving between 7:45 and 7:55 AM. If you arrive later, it is very difficult to lock your equipment properly. You will be dismissed from class at 2:15 and should report to room 805. We will prepare to ski for a 2:45 departure. After you are ready, please wait quietly in the hall by the boys’ gym, with all your belongings.
- You may bring a bag lunch or eat at Holiday Valley.
- You are allowed to eat and drink on the bus. You must be neat or this privilege will be revoked. (Plastic, closed drink containers only).
You may use lockers at the ski area if you wish. (approx. $3- $5). We highly recommend locking your equipment at the resort. Ski/ snowboard locks are available for purchase at HV. They are approx $5.00.
Any questions, please contact Mrs. Schunk 677-3500 ext. 4426 or email@example.com.
