Kid Writing

  • October - January

Each student has his own writing journal containing blank pages.  Students decide what their story is going to be about and then illustrates.  After they are finished, the teacher asks the student to "tell" her about his story.  The student then begins to write the sentence phonetically.  This means they are going to focus on the sounds they can hear.  If a student does not know the word, then he will draw a line, at least to represent the word.  The teacher will then adult write under the student's writing.

    February - June

Students now begin their second journal containing white lines and shaded lines.  The students will continue to illustrate a story while thinking about who, what, where, why, and when questions.   They will "Kid write" in the white lines and the teacher will "Adult write" underneath in the shaded line.
