Integrated Algebra

  • Overview:

This course is the first of three units of Mathematics required for high school graduation. Students will take a district midterm exam in January 2009 and the NYS Integrated Algebra Regents Exam in June 2009. Upon successful completion of this course, students will proceed to Geometry then Algebra 2 / Trigonometry.

    Materials:

    Supplies needed:

Ø        Texas Instruments TI-84+    or    TI-83+ Graphing Calculator (see below)

Ø        three ring binder    or    spiral notebook and pocket folder

    Ø        pencils

    Ø        loose-leaf paper

Ø        pens for assessments, the midterm and final Regents exam

    Ø        ¼ inch graph paper

Ø        highlighter, a few colored pencils, and dry erase markers (used occasionally)

    Calculators:

The district is in the process of replacing our existing class sets of TI-83+’s with TI-84+’s. Each student will be assigned a graphing calculator for class use only and are responsible for any damages. Students are expected to have a graphing calculator for use on homework assignments. The district is encouraging freshmen to purchase the TI-84+, however the TI-83+ is an acceptable alternative. Silver Editions of each are also fine but not necessary.

    Grading Policy:

Assessments (tests, quizzes, projects, …).................................................. 65%

          Coursework (classwork, homework, …)....................................................... 25%

          Miscellaneous (non-graded assignments, participation, …)........................ 10%

    Attendance:

It is essential that all students maintain good attendance. If a class is missed, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what material was covered in class and the homework assignment.
