You did it!! You completed second grade! Congratulations!! Have a wonderful and happy summer. Read as much as possible, practice your math facts and learn as much as you can. I love you all and will miss you so much. It has been a pleasure being your teacher.
If you cannot access the Google Classroom, here is the work assigned for this last week, June 8 - June 16, 2020. Please send pictures to me through email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or send through text message. My number was sent to you on 2 previous email letters.
Math - Use your red, spiral, math notebooks to continue with Topic 16 (we have to skip Topic 15) and complete and 16-3, 16-4, 16-5, 16-6 and the final test on Topic 16.
Writing - Please write a letter to me about your year in second grade. How was it? What did you love? What did you not love? Please include information about the Corona Virus Pandemic. This made a HUGE impact on our year, so how can you leave that out? I loved all of our time on the carpet talking about the calendar, talking about what was going on that day or that week. I also loved listening to you when you shared what was going on in your lives. I loved going outside, I loved our science units and I loved watching you grow as readers and writers.
Be sure to use capital letters and punctuation and lots of details to make your writing great.
3. Reading - Read for 30 minutes each day and write down the names of your books and how long you read each time. If you can, go to YouTube and watch the video of the book The Last Day Blues by Julie Banneberg. Listen carefully to the story and put the following events in correct order:
_____ After the students left, the teachers danced in the hallway.
_____ The class had sugar cookies and talked about thier summe plans.
_____ The students imagined how Mrs. Hartwell would spend her summer missing them.
_____ The students decided to get a present and cheer up Mrs. Hartwell.
_____ On the last day of school the students gave Mrs. Hartwell a beautiful letter.
_____ The class asked for some privacy to make their special gift.
_____ Mrs. Hartwell put on her safety goggles just for fun.
Social Studies - Watch a video on www.BrainPopJr called Ruby Bridges and take the quiz that comes afterward.
The second grade team at Winchester is now using Google Classroom to give and receive assignments to all of our students. We will make this as easy as we can. I am learning how to use this as I go. I have sent information on an email to you as well. All assignments will be posted on the Google Classroom, not on this website. You will see assignments posted from all the second grade teachers, not just me. Students are expected to complete all assignments from all teachers (not only their homeroom teacher).
Why are we using Google Classroom?
From Mrs. Brady: Since we know that the period of school closure has been further extended to June 16, 2020, it will be important for teachers to provide feedback on learning. The best way to provide feedback that focuses on the learning process is the utilization of a rubric that speaks to students progression. Therefore, as we continue on in the third trimester, students will be assessed this way: (EE) Exceeding Expectations, (ME) Meeting Expectations and (AE) Approaching Expectations.
This is different and new, I realize. In order to grade students for this last trimester of school, students need to complete assignments posted on Google Classroom.
Here are the directions to get to Google Classroom:
1. Go to classroom.google
2. Click on Go to Classroom
3. Enter your user name and click Next (I can provide this for you through an email or a text message)
4. Enter your password and click Next

*****If you are having trouble using the Google Classroom please call me (my phone number was given to you on 2 separate emails) or send an email asap please!! email@example.com I do not want your child to fall behind.
I will continue to post on this website on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with news and fun facts. All assignments will be posted on Google Classroom and here on this website.
Thank you for your support with this endeavor. It is new for me, as well as you, and I will do my very best to make it easy for all of us. We all want to return to traditional school but we must make do with what we are faced with.
How to find "Easy Bridge" for the math lessons:
1. Click the nine dots in the upper far right hand corner of the page --it looks like a grid ...
2. Scroll to the bottom and click Easy Bridge
3. Click on Pearson Success Net
4. Click on Lesson Assignment
5. You do not need a login or password for Easy Bridge. If, for some reason, you cannot get on Easy Bridge, please have your child continue to complete his math work in his red, spiral math notebook and send a picture through email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or a text message. That work covers the same skills as the online math does.
I can accept the math work either way.
Physical Education (gym): from Mr. Bainey - use classroom 5nh25fv code to see lessons from him.
Art, Music and Library have their own Google Classroom. To join, sign on to GoogleClassroom.com and click on the plus sign at the top of the screen, and type the code: ih3hk23
We appreciate your patience and support of this new Google Classroom very much. We are learning as you are. Thank you!
Please feel free to check on the Winchester Library link on our school website (www.wscschools.org). Mrs. Daley has links to many interesting and free websites that you can look at.
