Academic Intervention Services
What is AIS?
- AIS is a clinic for students that need academic intervention services.
- Students are scheduled into AIS if they fall into any of the following situations:
* Scored in the level 1 or level 2 range on the 8th grade state assessments for Math, ELA, Science, or Social Studies.
* Students are missing one or more of the needed requirements for graduation.
* Students, parents, or counselors may request for a students placement into AIS.
How does AIS help students?
* The AIS clinic is staffed with one special education teacher and six teaching assistants, all certified in different academic areas.
* Students are given the extra support and encouragement they need to help them succeed academically.
* Students are provided with one on one assistance with any of our certified staff.
* In addition to the general studies AIS clinic, there are also specific subject area clinics that students can be scheduled into.
How do we track the students in AIS?
* Students are responsible for keeping assignment logs.
* AIS staff will communicate with target area teachers and guidance counselors.
* Copies of students' progress reports and report cards are monitored.
* A master list of all mandatory AIS students is continually updated throughout the school year.
What is the criteria to exit AIS?
* Students pass their Regents exam needed for graduation.
* Students earn 75% or higher on a final district examination AND a composite average of 70% or better.
